The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is looking for a Research Associate 2 to join their team. This candidate will work with a research team studying the neural mechanisms of walking and functional recovery of walking following spinal cord injury. They will be involved in the preparation and implementation of experimental procedures in animals and the analysis of results. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Routine histological procedures including preparation of solutions for perfusion of animals, staining sectioning, mounting of tissue and maintenance of stock of specific tracers/antibodies/reagents. Perform immunocytochemical procedures for select antigens in neural tissue. Perform image analyses using light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, with tracing, reconstruction and digital imaging of results using computer-based methods of evaluation. Assist in surgery to prepare drugs, solutions and reagents; set up, test, calibrate, service and maintain research equipment: blood pressure and blood gas monitors, anesthetic delivery devices, fluid delivery devices (syringe and peristaltic pumps), CO2 monitors, pulse oximeters, surgical microscope, etc.; maintain supplies of drugs and surgical equipment. Anaesthetize animals and assist in surgical procedures and in the post-operative care. Assist in the training of students and postdoctoral fellows as needed. Assist in procurement and analysis of behavioral and kinematic measurements of movement. Construct and calibrate biosensors and electrodes for stimulation and recording. Assist with computer analysis of electrophysiological data and data entry. Ordering of lab supplies and general lab maintenance. Maintain filing system for purchase requisitions. Work and communicate effectively with other staff and students. Contribute to the preparation of theses, scientific manuscripts, grants, slides, posters for publication and presentation (writing, graphics, etc.).”
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor's Degree and two years of relevant experience required. Experience in anatomical (histological and immunocytochemical) procedures is required. Experience in histological and immunocytochemical procedures and analysis is required. Applicant must show a willingness and initiative in learning computer-based analysis programs. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certification may be considered.
