The University of Miami is seeking a Research Analyst for the Department of Planning, Institutional Research, and Assessment (PIRA). Job functions include: Writes programs, primarily using SAS. Maintains SAS programs relating to financial aid, retention, persistence rates, graduation rates, and athletes. Updates JCL and runs production jobs following a calendar and in response to requests. Summarizes findings and produces various reports in support of management research, policy analysis, and planning. Performs supervised research (e.g., retention and graduation rates, financial aid, at-risk students, and other analyses).

SPECIALIZED/PROFESSIONAL OR TECHNICAL DUTIES: Designs, writes, and updates SAS programs (including basic macros) on IBM mainframe to create reports using data from existing PIRA databases. Uses mainframe SAS and/or PC SAS to manipulate data sets, create new variables, check data, analyze data, and produce reports and statistical analyses. Updates JCL and macros. Prepares reports and materials for formal presentations, including tables and graphs using Excel. Collects and submits data for external surveys. Uses UM system (PIDMS) on a regular basis to check and verify accuracy of student data. Collects data from external sources, including via the Internet, for use in planning and reports. Maintains professional and technical skills.

Requirements: Bachelorís degree in computer science, statistics, or related quantitative field plus one year relevant work experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Ability to write programs using a structured language (e.g., C, C++, Fortran) and software for statistical analysis (SAS preferred). Experience with Excel. Training in statistics (e.g., regression, logistic regression) and data analysis. Accuracy and attention to detail. Strong analytic, problem solving, and technical skills. Good oral and written communication, time management, and interpersonal skills. Position #010068
