The University of Miami, Department of Medicine - Infectious Diseases has an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Nurse Practioner (ARNP). The ARNP will be responsible for assessing physical and psychosocial status of patients presenting for screening and evaluation for HIV and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment as well as for prevention services by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies. This position will support HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services in the South Florida community, in part through use of a mobile clinic. The incumbent will assist physicians in performing medical procedures, including blood drawing, vital signs, nursing assessments, history and physical examinations including gynecological assessment with Pap smear and swabs of mucosal surfaces for STI diagnosis. Function in mobile clinic setting including diverse locations throughout Miami-Dade County and possibly including non-traditional clinic hours. Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of STIs. Evaluation and initiation of PrEP for HIV prevention. Follow-up for STI and PrEP patients. Recognizes deviations from normal in the physical assessment. Works in collaboration with a physician in formulating treatment plans for health problems, including referrals and/or follow-up. Writes prescriptions for medication, blood products based upon laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and post-discharge care in accordance with written practice protocols. Initiates and facilitates clinical research protocols and coordinates patient care with research staff. Obtains complete medical history independent of supervision by the physician. Orders appropriate laboratory tests according to practice guidelines. Develops, implements and evaluates a plan of care that is appropriate for the patient and family. Actively participates in quality assurance programs and peer review activities. Responsible for providing assistance to physicians in the care and treatment of patients. Provides medical support to staff, triaging and implementing care in a knowledgeable and skillful manner, as evidenced by team feedback and documentation in medical records. Administers nursing assessments to include performing examinations, giving injections, and assessing a patient's health status. Assess severity of patient's condition, determining and directing patients to appropriate medical providers.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows:  Master's degree in Advanced Registered Nursing with a valid State of Florida license. Must be credentialed to practice by Hospital Medical Board. Fluent in Spanish and/or Haitian Kreyol preferred.   Experience with STI diagnosis and treatment and HIV prevention.

Patient safety is a top priority.
