The Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Office of Research Development has an opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Research Support position at the Medical Campus.

 

Job Summary (Purpose and Function):

The incumbent will work closely with the Associate Provost for Research Development in supporting the university’s efforts in research, scholarship and creative activities, focusing on university-wide research operations. The Sr. Manager, Research Support will support the Associate Provost’s efforts to assist schools and other units in enhancing their research programs, providing the necessary administrative support needed for developing research infrastructure and support services, and by informing the AP of funding opportunities. The incumbent will act as a liaison with schools and colleges to assist the Associate Provost with implementing and optimizing policies and processes regarding cores/shared resources and research centers/institutes and with the facilitation of high-impact, interdisciplinary scholarship.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages projects and initiatives in accordance with objectives and deadlines.
  • Supports development of initiatives to assist faculty with obtaining funds to support research, scholarship, and creative activities; diversifying and increasing research funding.
  • Oversees project development for large interdisciplinary teams.
  • Creates and track metrics pertaining to research productivity.
  • Interacts with various research platforms such as Academic Analytics, Digital Measure, and Pure.
  • Develops and provide faculty research development activities, including grant writing workshops.
  • Organizes and maintain data/documents for development of proposals.
  • Oversees institutes/centers and Cores/shared resources.
  • Produces university-wide reports on outcome metrics for limited submission nominees.
  • Develops, plans, and organizes events, workshops, and research talks.
  • Coordinates with Medical Communications and UM Communications to manage research related communication strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent English (verbal and written) communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal professionally with all types of information, including that of a confidential nature. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) with excellent data management skills.
  • Knowledge of academic research environments.
  • Understanding of issues related to interdisciplinary research.
  • Qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree; Ph.D. strongly preferred.
  • Five years’ experience in academic research institution(s).
  • Competence with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Grant writing/development experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of university research administration processes and procedures.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant degree, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
