The Development Director, Annual Giving reports to the Sr. Development Director, Annual Giving and is responsible for aggressively facilitating the funding priorities of the University of Miami. This position will be primarily responsible for soliciting and closing gifts of $1,000 to $50,000 by enhancing relationships with new and existing alumni donors in assigned geographic areas across the country. The Development Director, Annual Giving will work closely with the Annual Fund team while maintaining close relationships with all areas of the University. The Development Director, Annual Giving position is an integral part of the Alumni Relations team and University Advancement Division.

•Execute a comprehensive operational plan, which includes measurable performance goals, objectives and tactics set by the Senior Development Director, Annual Giving that support the funding priorities of the Division of University Advancement based upon the University’s Common Purpose and eight key initiatives that will guide our next comprehensive campaign.

•Develop and manage relationships with targeted prospects, with a goal of engaging at least 200 alumni throughout the fiscal year. Input all donor contact data into the Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.

•Develop a comprehensive knowledge of University of Miami’s history, culture, programs, case for support, organizational structure, and the four defining visions for the future of UM and how they correlate to the responsibilities of the position.

•Identify and research possible funding sources from new alumni leadership prospects. Develop comprehensive cultivation and solicitation plans that involve alumni engagement, admissions, student affairs, development officers and other advancement staff, deans, faculty and volunteers as appropriate.

•Create, execute and update as necessary a detailed travel calendar that includes objectives, strategies and segmentations. Required to make an average of one solicitation visit per working day or approximately 17 solicitation visits per month in pursuit of this responsibility.

•Meet or exceed measurable performance goals by soliciting leadership gifts to meet institutional needs with the primary goal of generating gifts in the $1,000 to $50,000 range primarily from lapsed donors or upgraded renewals.

•Produce timely and appropriate donor correspondence that fulfills cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies and objectives. Develop and execute a comprehensive stewardship program for position’s active donors.

•Develop concurrent strategy of cultivating and soliciting young alumni for gifts of under $1,000 incorporating Leadership Giving’s Protégé program, including non-donors.

•Recruit alumni to serve as volunteers whose purpose is to assist and lead in a wide variety of activities on behalf of the Alumni Association, Advancement Division or Schools and Colleges.

•Assist the Office of Alumni Relations in appropriate regional alumni outreach efforts.

•Ensure Raiser’s Edge is updated as required with biographic and prospect management information including all cultivation and solicitation moves and contact reports.

•Manage expenditures and budget for this position, ensuring cost effectiveness within assigned budget.

•Candidate must have at least a bachelor's degree with emphasis in business/marketing, communications or related field. At least three years of proven success in fundraising, preferably in higher education. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

•Ability to confidently persuade a broad spectrum of constituents, stakeholders and business leaders. Demonstrated success in creative fundraising strategies targeting individual donors; ability to establish beneficial, symbiotic relationships with alumni and other constituents which achieves overall university goals and objectives.

•Superlative written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated presentation abilities, excellent negotiation and persuasion skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.

•Must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours a week with extreme flexibility and significant travel as required. Will require attendance at occasional evening and weekend activities supporting the mission of the University and the Office of University Advancement. Will often act as host to guests of the University during special events.

•Must work in harmony with colleagues in a team-oriented environment to help provide optimum organization and efficiency; must follow direction of; seek advice of; and accept constructive criticism from supervisor.

•Proficient knowledge of fundraising software, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word and demonstrated working knowledge of the philanthropic aspects of tax law preferred.
