The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami (UM) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position that involves ecosystem modeling and fisheries management in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). The successful candidate will be responsible for refining and further developing an ecosystem model of the northern Gulf of Mexico with focus on managed species, the role of forage fish, and the effects of fisheries bycatch. He or she will also be responsible for analyzing and interpreting the results, for presenting findings at scientific meetings and for publishing the results in scientific journals.

The work will be done in close collaboration with scientists in the Sustainable Fisheries Division (SFD) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Miami. The successful individual will also interact with an interdisciplinary research group of ecosystem modelers at the University of Florida and George Mason University. The work will involve using and interpreting large data sets, integration of population abundance time series from stock assessments, spatial habitat structure, ecosystem stressors and disturbances into the ecosystem model, and incorporating model outputs into stock assessments.

• Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science or in a related field.
• The successful candidate should have experience with one or more of the following: population dynamics modeling; fisheries stock assessment; and ecosystem modeling. Preference will be given to individuals with strong modeling, quantitative, and statistical skills.
• Other requirements include an ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals, strong written and oral communications skills, and demonstrated ability to work in cooperative research.
