Responsible for the installation of VoIP and legacy PBX sets all work is assigned based on an order entry system.  Will perform moves, add, and changes as necessary for university customers.  Take the lead on major projects that require wiring based on industry standards.  This includes managing wiring crew, bill of materials, and installation of phone systems. Projects must come in on budget and adherer to Department of Telecommunication standards. Will provide appropriate administrative support for Telecommunications equipment such as lines and special requests; provides guidance and training to less senior staff members.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
•Providing guidance and training to lower level telecommunication technicians.
•Maintaining a relationship with University vendors and managing their services as needed.
•Ensure the integrity of the e911database as it pertains to the University.
•Tracking telephone equipment and maintaining up to date inventory record.
•Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs telecommunications equipment and data/voice cabling including Voice over IP (VoIP) equipment, cabling for fiber optic and cable TV, and UPS; installs, and moves telephones.
•Responds to Service Desk, Information Technology and/or supervisor requests; repairs or resolves Telecommunications problems; services Telecommunications equipment both on and off campus.
•Documents and maintains all Telecom closets and equipment rooms including labeling telephone or cabling equipment, and cleaning and securing all closets/rooms.
•Orders parts as needed for work order or projects.  Ensures all inventory documentation is up to date.
•May travel off campus to support satellite clinics.
•Maintaining an established work schedule and providing on-call assistance, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
•Evaluating the costs versus benefits of proposed and existing phone services.
•Meet with customers to ascertain services, equipment requirements and problems, following up as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Reading floor plans, blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings in preparation for installation projects.
•Ability to use interpersonal and communications skills including tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
•Effectively using Organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through.
•Installing and maintaining telecommunications equipment and cabling.
•Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications as well as telecommunications hardware, tools, and technology.
•May be subject to climbing ladders and working in tight spaces.
•Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
•Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
•Valid Florida Driver’s License.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
•High School Diploma.
Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):
•At least three years’ experience in installation and repair of telephone systems and/or installation of voice and data cabling.
