Basic Responsibilities : Swim Instructors are responsible for instructing participants, who range
in age from 6 – 12, in the University of Miami Mini Canes Recreational Sports Camp. They are
responsible for the safe, orderly and enjoyable participation of campers while in and around
the pool. Swim instructors should act as positive role models and be enthusiastic and
supportive of the counselors and camp administrative staff at all times. Swim instructors are
expected to maintain open lines of communication with summer camp staff, pool supervisor,
and counselors in fulfilling roles and duties.

1. Swim instructors must attend mandatory staff training on Saturday, June 4, no exceptions.
2. Responsible for teaching daily swim lessons to campers.
3. Maintain a safe environment and enforce safety rules with campers.
4. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard
of customer service.
5. Help other instructors maintain discipline and safety.
6. Administer discipline according to University of Miami Summer Camp policies.
7. Keep accurate incident and accident reports. Report them immediately to the Operation
Director for Administration.
8. Complete the appropriate skills checklist, progress reports and/or certificates at the end of
each session for each camper.
9. Read the training manuals and attend training and meetings as scheduled.
10. Be available during the entire camp June 12 through August 4 each day, Monday – Friday,
from 10:30am – 3:30pm.
11. Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements : American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred Lifeguard
certification and CPR certification mandatory at time of camp. Must complete criminal
background check, drug test, and fingerprin ting through University of Miami . Previous Mini
Canes camp swim instructor experience preferred.
