POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Risk Manager reports to Director Risk Management/Chief Medical Risk Officer and works collaboratively with the University of Miami Health System Risk Management Team in the review and operation of the clinical risk management and patient safety programs. The primary focus will be the management, analysis and monitoring of safety events. The Senior Risk Manager will focus on the identification and improvement of patient safety processes to improve patient safety and reduce the incidence of patient harm events. The Senior Risk Manager will collaborate to ensure the Risk Management Department is compliant with all State and Federal Laws and Regulations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Ensure the day-to-day review of the event reporting system.
• Review and investigate safety events, to include investigation of potentially reportable events.
• Track and trend events to identify organizational learning opportunities and risks.
• Collaborate with healthcare team to minimize risk of injuries and adverse incidents.
• Review and analyze event reports for safety concerns, quality of care, regulatory and

   insurance concerns.
• Assist with RCAs, FMEAs and other risk assessments
• Assist Director Risk Management/Chief Medical Risk Officer to coordinate risk reduction

  and prevention strategies.
• Keeps abreast of appropriate regulatory requirements related to risk/claims management and

  patient safety.
• Coordinate with patient advocates to investigate/respond to quality of care grievances.
• Will demonstrate a thorough understanding of Florida Internal Risk Management Chapter along

  with other State and Federal laws.
• Provide professional leadership and support to healthcare team on for patient safety

  and risk management topics.
• Compose and conduct ongoing risk management and patient safety education
• Actively participates in designated performance improvement, quality improvement, patient

  safety and ethics committees.
• Other duties as assigned

    QUAILIFICATIONS:

    Must be a RN or BSN graduate with a Florida Registered Nurse License.
    • Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager preferred

    • Minimum experience 3-5 years’ experience and/or training in facility healthcare risk management/patient safety

    • Ability to understand and interact with healthcare providers

    • Prior experience in an academic medical center preferred

    • Knowledge of Hospital, State and Federal directives and The Joint Commission Standards

    • Any combination of relevant education, work experience, and / or certifications will be considered

    • Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

    • Must be self-motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment.

    • Must be able to identify issues, conduct investigations and work collaboratively toward resolution.

    • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in both written and verbal formats.
