The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami (UM), Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Physical Oceanography and Climate Dynamics. The incumbent will work with scientists in the Physical Oceanography Division of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and in direct collaboration with scientists at Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) of University of Miami.
 
We are seeking highly motivated postdoctoral associates with a strong background and experience in either numerical modeling or analysis of large-scale ocean and atmosphere datasets. The successful candidate will join a research team at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to use observations and ocean and/or coupled atmosphere-ocean models to study interannual-to-decadal variability of the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (SAMOC). The specific objectives include exploring the impact of eddies in Ocean General Circulation Models (OGCMs) on SAMOC variability and to quantify the relationship of the SAMOC with the Southern Hemisphere westerlies and the Agulhas leakage. This project is also in collaboration with NOAA’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL). The incumbent will have opportunity to interact with scientists at GFDL.
 
Applicants must have:
•Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography/Atmospheric Science or a related field and a demonstrated ability in publishing results in the peer-reviewed literature. 
•Highly desirable qualifications include knowledge of Unix and Fortran, and the ability to run ocean or coupled atmosphere-ocean models. 
•Prior experience with the GFDL’s Modular Ocean Model (MOM) is desirable, but not required.
