A position is available for a post-doctoral researcher to work in the Division of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) of the University of Miami. The post-doc would work with Dr. David Nolan of RSMAS and Drs. George Bryan and Richard Rotunno of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in very-high-resolution modeling of tornadoes and their interaction with the ground, using both turbulence parameterizations and direct numerical simulation. The simulated wind fields will also be used as the basis for observing system tests to evaluate the capability of current and future field campaigns to accurately observe the inner-core circulation of the tornado.

The incumbent should have earned a Ph.D. in the last five years in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other closely related fields, and have experience with computational fluid dynamics, management of large data sets, and flow visualization. Familiarity with severe storm and tornado dynamics may be helpful but is not required.

The position will be supported for one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional one or one and a half years.
