The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), invites applications for a Research Associate III position in Physical Oceanography. The position is concerned with providing technical and science support to observational programs and will involve close collaboration with scientists at RSMAS and the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML).
 
The successful applicant must have a Bachelors degree or higher in oceanography, physics, mathematics, computer science, environmental science or related fields, and at least 5 years of relevant work related experience. Necessary technical skills include programming in higher-level languages, for example FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, Unix shell-scripting, and working on computers with Unix and Linux and Windows operating systems.
 
The incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with a diverse group of people in large collaborative projects. The incumbent is expected to adapt the automatic data processing system used by the US Argo Data Assembly Center to collect, process and distribute the data from profiling floats. Duties include but are not limited to: (1) the design, development and maintenance of software in a wide range of programming languages with the primary purpose of implementing changes related to the addition of deep Argo floats to the data stream; (2) writing documentation that facilitates the use and maintenance of operational data processing systems; (3) provide documentation necessary for updating of the web pages of the US Argo Data Assembly Center.
