Responsible for replacing broken glass in doors, windows and partitions, light bulbs and tubes, faucet washers and flush valves, broken commode seats, repairs or replaces damaged ceiling, walls, floor and window covering (including minor plaster work), switch and outlet covers, and replace fuses resets circuit breakers. Other duties include: repair minor plumbing leaks, unclog drains, repair and/or install tissue, towel and soap dispensers, and repair bathroom partitions. Adjust and repair doors and door hardware, excluding locks and perform minor repairs to furniture and fixtures. Inspect fire extinguishers and replace units that are out-of-date, discharged, or damaged. Hang mirrors and pictures, tighten loose signs and supports; reattach molding to wall and perform miscellaneous carpentry functions. Conduct routine building inspections, remove trash and debris from roofs, move furniture, equipment or supplies as directed. Respond to building, furniture and fixtures-related trouble reports. Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs to all building surfaces, building structures, hardware, furniture and fixtures in assigned area and contact immediate superior to initiate work orders. Expected to assist the back-up mechanic and perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have one (1) year experience in building maintenance. Experience in a hospital setting preferred. Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the State prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as a Building Maintenance Mechanic if required by work assignment. Must have ability to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of materials. Climbs ladders, balances, kneels, crouches and reaches. Must be able to speak, write and understand English. Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience will be considered

As a result, during the Influenza ("the flu") season (September through April), the University of Miami School of Medicine requires all employees who provide ongoing services to patients, work in a location (all Hospitals and clinics) where patient care is provided, or work in patient care or clinical care areas, to have an annual influenza vaccination.
