The University of Miami is seeking and Assistant Vice President of Government and Community Relations to serve as a representative of the University of Miami to local, state, and federal government entities. The responsibilities include facilitating and nurturing relationships with elected officials and their staff, governmental agencies, and key political contacts. The Assistant Vice President for Government Relations informs and influences public policy at the local, state and federal levels on issues and in areas of interest to the University. Assist the Vice President of Government and Community Relations in the development and implementation of the University’s state government strategy. Develop and maintains regular working relationships with state elected officials and their staff.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of progressive and solid work-related experience in government and/or government relations. Equivalent combinations of education/experience may be considered. Must possess a solid understanding of the impact of legislation and public policy upon the University, as well as an understanding of the practices and procedures of higher education institutions, particularly institutions with a medical school. Must have substantial experience with the state legislative process, particularly the appropriations process for higher education and health care. Must have a keen understanding of state and federal health care policies, and at least some experience interacting with Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration. Must have an extensive network of contacts within federal, state and local governments. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be willing to travel frequently.
