The position is located at the South Florida ground station responsible for Antarctic satellite telecommunications located in Richmond Heights, FL.

The applicant will be responsible for the operation of the satellite ground station, including repairs and maintenance of satellite antennas (large and small), as well as transmit and receive systems. Other responsibilities include design and development, and/or purchase and maintenance of satellite equipment. The applicant must be willing to acquire a basic understanding of all aspects of the operation including customer service, software, and station operation. This position includes on-call ground station duties and supervision of two ground station staff members. Additional duties include the collection and synthesis of data for satellite link metrics, preparation of monthly reports, assistance with and review of annual reports and projections, and provision of support to users both within and outside of the University, with technical advice and resolution of problems related to satellite services.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience. Areas of expertise include satellite systems engineering, RF design and engineering, electronic equipment design, computer programming, and knowledge of communications equipment theory. Network skills in TCP-IP protocols over satellite links are highly desirable. Additional desired skills include effective written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving, flexibility, ethical behavior and creativity.
