Report to the Associate Provost of Planning, Institutional Research, and Assessment (PIRA). Work under general supervision but assumes responsibility for production of analyses and reports. No full-time supervisory duties but may oversee work of undergraduate students or graduate assistants on specific projects.
Provide and update reports for use by senior leadership to support the University’s planning, policy formulation, and decision-making. Assist in the collection and cleaning of data. Validate data and schema layouts for university data sets including student records, admissions, and financials. Create tables and queries in the Data Warehouse. Develop and prepare annual office publications and respond to ad hoc requests from individuals within and outside the University.
PROFESSIONAL OR TECHNICAL DUTIES:
Develop and update complex Excel spreadsheets, sometimes combining multiple sources of data and writing macros using Visual Basic. Write reports and queries in People Soft ERP system. Prepare Fact File, Fact Book, and other PIRA reports. Create graphs using Golden Soft MapViewer. Develop materials for formal presentations and works on new analyses in consultation with the Associate Provost. Obtain data for reports from PIRA analysts, individuals in other offices, and from external sources (e.g., peer data). Partner with relevant University departments as needed to improve quality of data and analyses. Coordinate and/or participate in the administration, analysis, and interpretation of university-level surveys. Code open ended survey comments using SPSS Text Analytics. Organize, record, and prepare reports from focus groups. Maintain professional and technical skills.
Manage a portfolio of projects with shifting priorities and deadlines. Write and maintain documentation. Attend meetings. Assist in training student assistants. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics or related quantitative field and a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). Proven experience in writing database queries, analyzing data and preparing effective analytic reports. Experience with PeopleSoft ERP systems and/or developing database queries (e.g., SQL). Excellent advanced Excel skills (including a wide range of functions, Pivot tables, and the ability to develop complex spreadsheets) and web-research skills. Strong analytic skills. Accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent oral and written communication skills, time management, problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills.
