Under the direction of the Director, Asst. Director and/or Manager, the scheduling coordinator is responsible for the scheduling of elective procedures for patient seen in the outpatient clinic by utilizing knowledge of the physical environment, surgical instrumentation and/or equipment, staff and physician’s preferences to schedule cases. The Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for promoting a professional atmosphere and assisting in activities to facilitate the smooth functioning of surgical schedule. Demonstrates effective public relation and communication skills in dealing with physicians, office personnel, visitors and staff. Adheres to divisional and departmental service standards related to telephone access to ensure that patients, referring physicians, and other customers can easily access the practice by telephone. Assists patients in a manner that promotes the perception that the staff is courteous, efficient and interested in their healthcare. Treats all patients with dignity and professionalism.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of experience working in a fast paced medical office environment. Some college education preferred. Able to perform detailed assignments and work under stressful conditions. Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language and medical terminology. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with patients and families, peers, supervisors and other members of the health care team. Must be knowledgeable of computer use and be able to input information quickly, accurately, and in a timely fashion. Ability to operate office related equipment (i.e., copier, fax machine, etc.). Any combination of relevant education, work experience, and / or certifications will be considered.
