Work Location: Miami

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR), has an immediate opening for a Senior Animal Care Technician. The incumbent is responsible for training and monitoring fellow technicians in appropriate animal husbandry procedures and for providing assistance in training technical staff, students, and investigators the proper handling of research animals, as well as ensuring that the animal facilities are adequately stocked, and that any facility/physical plant issues are promptly identified, reported, and addressed. The Senior Animal Care Technician is also responsible for maintaining related records as defined by husbandry Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of animal care experience; of which three (3) years must be experience in an animal research facility. Degree preferred in Animal Science or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in laboratory animal science or equivalent. Must have previous experience in the handling of multiple animal species, including Non-Human Primates (NHP) and Virus Antigen Free (VAF) rodents. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and coordination of people preferred. Knowledge of teaching instructions for individuals and groups preferred. American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level is preferred and will be strongly encouraged. Fluent in English language communication skills and computer literacy. Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds without assistance. Some weekend/holiday/evening work may be required.
