The Volunteer & Community Outreach Coordinator serves as an essential member of the Student Life team and has direct reporting responsibility to the Director of the Butler Center. The mission of the Butler Center is to serve as a catalyst in developing students who cultivate positive social change within their communities. Acting as a clearinghouse for all service and leadership endeavors, the Center strives to develop synergistic partnerships within the faculty, campus, local and global community to bring these fundamental concepts to fruition and integrate them further into the campus community. The Department serves as an integral part of the Division of Student Affairs and works closely with all departments within Student Life.

Serve as the primary administrator responsible for the management and oversight of the volunteer placement process and outreach to community partners. Serve as the primary administrator responsible for coordinating the management, oversight and implementation of strategic planning initiatives regarding community service and civic engagement, working closely under the direction of the Director. Responsible for the advisement and management of several of the major service-related program boards sponsored by the Butler Center for Service and Leadership. Report to the Director of the Butler Center for Volunteer Service and Leadership Development. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director. Manage the day-to-day operations and objectives of numerous student programming boards and groups within the Butler Center that relate to volunteer service. Facilitate coordination of the departmental calendar of student programs and provide avenues for discussion among organizational leaders. Provide support and assistance with the direct and indirect advisement of numerous student service clubs, organizations, advocacy groups, and action committees whose focus relates to poverty and educational access. Develop and implement University-wide awareness programs to educate students about volunteer and leadership opportunities on campus and in the community. Serve as a liaison to university community partners in order to develop and sustain positive relationships with non-profit organizations in South Florida. This includes site visits, student volunteer placement, and the cultivation of new non-profit organization connections. Oversee the management of the community volunteer placement process that includes the development and administration of the OrgSync Service Module to educate students about the depth and breadth of social issues to work with in the immediate area as well as a system of tracking hours/services provided. Collaborate with the School of Law, Housing and Residential Life, Center for Civic and Community Engagement, Toppel Career Center, Center for Undergraduate Research and Community Outreach, School of Education and Human Development and other academic and administrative units to develop innovative initiatives that further develop partnerships with the community. Work with the Director to create additional avenues to augment service, leadership and civic engagement on campus. Ensure effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality standards for programs/events, staff and self. In consultation with the Director, evaluate effectiveness and objectives for campus engagement activities and events (service-related specifically) through the development and implementation of assessment instruments. Assist with student employee training initiatives in conjunction with the Director and Assistant Director. Manage the OrgSync Community Agency Database and communicates regularly and effectively with over 500 community agencies to consistently audit quality of experience offered. Assist with the provision of service-related programs, services and advising for students living in the S.T.R.I.V.E. (Serving Together Reaching Integrity, Values & Engagement) Living-Learning Community on campus. Students living in the community make a contractual commitment to living a life centered on the fundamental concepts of community service, civic engagement and leadership endeavors. Serve as budget signatory and provide oversight for budgets for the service-related programming boards. Assist the Director in ensuring that all students groups and office programs comply with all institutional policies and procedures, including ensuring that they operate within the parameters of funds allocated. Oversight of the Community Service Mini-Grant program and Clinton Global Initiative University Network Grant Program. Engage in the research and development of grant proposals. Assist the Director in the preparation, follow-up and implementation of any proposals specifically as it relates to reconciling financial obligations. Contribute ideas and viewpoints to the Director on operational and strategic plans for the department, campus/community programs and events as well as collaborative partnerships. Make daily independent decisions to ensure department objectives are met and that University policies and procedures are followed.


Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of work related experience, required; proven ability to effectively collaborate and build strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment and a commitment to understanding and supporting multicultural perspectives; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Position 047615
