The Marine Operations Department at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science has an immediate opening for a Marine Technician. The incumbent will be responsible for the daily management of the Small Boat program, which includes all aspects of budgeting, scheduling, safety, maintenance and repairs to small boats, outboard motors and trailers. Duties also include operating and exercising small boats as necessary for research and communicating with end users to ensure an efficient scheduling process; serving as a Marine Operator Certification Course (MOCC) instructor; maintaining currency of all official documentation; serving as relief crew aboard the research vessel F.G. Walton Smith as needed and functioning as the Dock Master, assigning dockage and providing logistical assistance for small boats and visiting vessels to the RSMAS dock.

Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent, vocational training or certification in small boat mechanics or marine equipment and a minimum 2 years’ experience as a United States Coast Guard licensed Captain. A minimum 2 years of experience in handling, operating, maintaining and repairing small boats, outboard motors, and small boat trailers is also required. The candidate must possess a United States Coast Guard Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel License (OUPV or 6 pak); 100 ton Limited Master or Master’s license and a valid/current Florida Driver's License.
