Work Location: Coral Gables Campus

Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Receive and catalog firm order materials; research and resolve firm order problems as needed. Copy catalogs monographic and serials titles as needed; May provide original cataloging description with established sources under the supervision of Catalog Librarian and/or Supervisor. Search authority files, Library of Congress Classification Web and other sources to identify and establish correct form of names, series or subject headings (e.g., Library of Congress, via Z39.50, etc.) Revise classification numbers, names and subject headings to member copy as needed. Provide additional support and assist in special cataloging projects (such as working on Cuban Heritage Collection, Special Collection materials and retrospective conversion of periodicals). Assist Metadata Librarian in assigning descriptive metadata into CONTENTdm, the Libraries digital content management system for digital library initiatives. Participate in assigned database maintenance and quality control activities; identify discrepancies in monograph copy cataloging, including description, classification and subject headings. Assist Unit supervisor in training student assistants and in coordinating the student assistants’ work flow. Maintain helpful and supportive customer service behavior with all library customers internal and external. Establish effective and supportive interdepartmental relationships, and participate in cross training opportunities to increase library and unit effectiveness and to effectively disseminate information. Communicate frequently and effectively with all University staff, faculty, and administrators in a timely manner regarding procedures, policies, and other necessary information. When possible, participate in committees and teams within and outside the Libraries to provide services to the Libraries, University, and the Community.

Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience OR 2 years of college or a combination of the two; basic data entry and/or word processing skills; analytic and critical thinking skills; aptitude for accuracy and detail; ability to work cooperatively and productively with others; ability to work independently in a team environment; good oral and written English language communication skills; excellent organizational skills; good knowledge of basic standards for bibliographic description; good working knowledge of Library of Congress classification and subject headings, AACR2 and USMARC; prior experience in copy cataloging; working knowledge of one (1) foreign language.
