Work Location: Coral Gables Campus

Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Under the direction of the Librarian for E-Learning and Emerging Technologies, the Library Technician is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Digital Media Lab. The Library Technician will supervise students and provide service and assistance to patrons working with new media.

Provide high-quality hardware and software support to Digital Media Lab patrons; record accurate statistics of Digital Media Lab usage; use Library circulation system to check-in/check-out lending equipment; explore emerging technologies where appropriate; develop print and Web-based instructional materials for students, faculty, and staff in areas of digital media; supervise student employees including orientation, training, and evaluating; train students on basic lab procedures and guidelines; assist in developing student skill sets, and provides guidance on student specializations; digitize objects using archival preservation standards and scanning techniques; properly handle fragile and rare archival materials; scan prints, photographs, artwork, etc. and import into imaging software; correct for color and manipulate images as required using provided software; upload digital images to specified servers; follow established data entry standards set up by the UM Libraries to provide a description of the objects for the archives; provide photography, videography, and streaming services as needed by the department. Assist with training sessions for University faculty, staff, and students on digital media related projects. Prepare presentations and hands-on exercises for students who wish to use DMS technologies; other duties as assigned. Maintain helpful and supportive customer service behavior with all library customers. Establish effective interdepartmental relationships to increase unit effectiveness and disseminate information. Communicate frequently and effectively with Digital Lab staff and other departmental staff or administration in a timely manner regarding procedures, policies, and other necessary information.

Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years of experience digitizing audio, video, and images using Macintosh and Windows-based platforms; excellent customer service skills; experience with Mac OS X operating system; proficiency using the following software application suites: Adobe Master Collection; Final Cut Studio; iLife; iWork; Microsoft Office (Mac and Windows); must be able to provide effective application instruction on a one-on-one basis.
